Salah: I Hope to Win the Premier League in My “Last Year”

Mohamed Salah, the star of Liverpool, the leaders of the English Premier League, stated that negotiations regarding his contract renewal with the team have not resulted in any progress over the past six months, adding that his priority is winning the league, not the Champions League, in “my last year with the club.”
The Egyptian national team captain concluded a fantastic year as the most involved player in goal contributions in the top five European leagues with 29 goals and 23 assists. He also leads the Premier League’s top scorer list this season with 17 goals, as well as the assist leaders with 13 assists.
The 32-year-old player, whose contract expires at the end of this season, said in an interview with Sky Sports: “The last six months haven’t seen any progress. We are far from any progress, and we will have to wait and see.”
Liverpool leads the league with 45 points from 18 matches, six points ahead of second-place Arsenal, who have played 19 games.
The team is also top of their Champions League group after winning all six matches in the group stage, three points ahead of second-placed Barcelona.
When asked about his future goals, Salah, who won the title with Liverpool in 2020, said: “The first goal this year was to win the Premier League with Liverpool. I’ve always said that the goal was to win the Champions League. But this is the first time I say I really want to win the Premier League.”
He added: “Maybe because we didn’t celebrate the title we won the way we wanted. And maybe in my last year with the club, I want to do something special for the city,” pointing out that the COVID-19 pandemic had prevented the usual celebrations.
