Technical Failure Disrupts German Airports

A spokesperson for the German Federal Police announced on Friday that IT systems at airports across the country were experiencing technical failures, forcing officers to manually process passengers arriving from outside the Schengen Zone, which allows free travel across Europe.
The spokesperson, based in Frankfurt, stated: “There is currently a nationwide IT failure,” adding that the cause remains unknown, as reported by Reuters.
He noted that entry into Germany is “delayed but still possible” and that “there is currently no larger-than-usual congestion at Frankfurt Airport,” the country’s busiest.
According to the Bild newspaper, police ruled out a hacking attempt targeting airport systems, explaining that German airport systems are outdated and that the interior minister had ignored warnings about the need to upgrade them.
