Torres Out for Two Months Due to Injury

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery announced on Friday that defender Pau Torres will be sidelined for two months after suffering a metatarsal fracture. This comes ahead of Villa’s Premier League match against Leicester City on Saturday.
The 27-year-old defender was seen leaving Villa Park on crutches last Monday after injuring his foot during a clearance in the early stages of the 2-2 draw with Brighton.
Torres has been a key player for Villa, starting 18 of their 19 league matches this season and playing in every Champions League fixture.
“Torres suffered a metatarsal fracture and will be out for two months or more,” Emery told reporters.
Defender Diego Carlos and winger Jaden Philogene will also miss the match due to injuries. Additionally, attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers and forward John Duran will be unavailable due to suspensions.
Rogers is suspended for one match after accumulating five yellow cards, while Duran will miss his second of a three-match suspension after receiving a straight red card for violent conduct in the 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United.
Aston Villa currently sits in ninth place in the Premier League with 29 points and fifth place in the Champions League with 13 points.
Emery reflected on the season so far: “We don’t think we’ve been bad in the first half of the season, but we could have done better. The league is our priority. We’re in the January transfer window, and the club is working to improve the squad. If we can bring in new players or if someone needs to leave, we’ll be open to it.”
Regarding Philogene (22), who came through Villa’s academy, Emery said: “There may be an option for Philogene in January to leave if the club allows it.”
