Manchester City Continues Momentum with a Dominant Win Over West Ham in the Premier League

Defending champions Manchester City continued their resurgence with back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since October, crushing West Ham 4-1 on Saturday in Matchweek 20. Norwegian striker Erling Haaland contributed a brace to the emphatic victory.
City entered the game following a 2-0 win over Leicester City in the previous matchweek, marking only their second win in their last 14 games across all competitions. Saturday’s result was City’s first consecutive league wins since October, during which they defeated Fulham and Wolverhampton.
This marked City’s tenth league victory of the season and their eighth consecutive win over West Ham. The win lifted them to sixth place with 34 points, trailing league leaders Liverpool by 11 points. Liverpool faces archrivals Manchester United on Sunday with an additional game in hand.
Meanwhile, West Ham remains stagnant with 23 points after suffering their second consecutive defeat, following a 5-0 loss to Liverpool in the previous round, marking their ninth loss this season.
City’s first goal came in the 10th minute, as Brazilian Savinho delivered a cross that deflected off Czech defender Vladimír Coufal, deceiving goalkeeper Alphonse Areola. Approaching halftime, Savinho once again set up Erling Haaland, who scored with a header in the 42nd minute.
Haaland added another in the 55th minute with a composed finish over Areola, taking his tally to 16 league goals, just behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah with 17.
City sealed the win in the 58th minute as a defensive error led to the ball reaching Kevin De Bruyne, who set up Phil Foden for his second league goal of the season. West Ham managed a consolation goal in the 71st minute through German striker Niclas Füllkrug, assisted by Tomáš Souček. However, City remained in control and secured all three points.
