Dr. Omar Bakheet Mohamed Adam, Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, stated that certain negative practices emerged during the currency exchange period, including the exchange of old currency for new at a lower value, making the process usurious. Additionally, some individuals exploited bank accounts by opening multiple accounts, withdrawing the specified amounts, and engaging in trade to exploit others’ circumstances.
On Saturday, the minister visited the Sudanese Central Bank branch in Port Sudan, where he was welcomed by Barai Sidiq Ali, the Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, his deputies, and the branch manager. The governor gave a detailed explanation of the currency exchange process, urging citizens to use only official channels to exchange currency in order to avoid receiving counterfeit money, and to expedite the exchange of old currency and open bank accounts.
The minister emphasized that the visit aimed to ensure the smooth flow of the currency exchange process, stating that it was progressing systematically. He added that the state had implemented scientifically planned economic policies aimed at protecting the economy from various forms of targeting. The minister also highlighted the country’s shift toward digital currency, mentioning steps that are being taken to facilitate the transfer and exchange of money through banking apps and mobile phones, making business transactions safer and more secure.
