Sudan Calls on Turkey to Increase Trade Exchange

Sudan’s Finance Minister, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, emphasized the Sudanese government’s interest in developing cooperative relations with Turkey on all levels, especially in the economic field, and stressed the strong desire to advance efforts in this area.
During a meeting with Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Burhan Din Duran in Port Sudan on Saturday, the minister expressed his dissatisfaction with the current trade performance between the two countries and the need for joint efforts to improve it. He also highlighted the importance of Turkish airlines returning to Sudan soon and thanked Turkey for the humanitarian support provided to Sudan during the ongoing war.
He welcomed the Turkish initiative for peace in Sudan, explaining to the Turkish official the nature of the war that was launched on Sudan using the Rapid Support Forces as a tool. He pointed out the Sudanese government’s acceptance of any initiative that reaffirms Sudan’s sovereignty, respecting its people and land, and honoring the state’s institutions. He emphasized the Sudanese people’s right to live with dignity, free from foreign interventions, and reiterated Sudan’s support for the Turkish peace initiative for Africa and the pursuit of security and stability in the region.
For his part, the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister announced that the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) will resume operations in Sudan in the near future.
The two sides agreed to hold a joint ministerial committee in the first half of 2025 and to work together to enhance cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture, trade, and other economic sectors.
