A special committee formed by the Transitional Sovereign Council is nearing the completion of its task, which involves proposing amendments to the Constitutional Document (2019). The proposals will be presented at a joint meeting between the Sovereign and Council of Ministers, which, according to the document, serves as the temporary legislative body to review and approve them.
According to special sources, as reported by “Al-Muhaqiq” news website, the committee, which includes a number of ministers and experts, has been working continuously over the past two weeks. It is considering options to balance the current situation of the country during and after the war, and to respond to both internal and external demands regarding the importance of appointing a civilian Prime Minister. This Prime Minister would be tasked with forming a transitional government to manage the civilian side of the struggle for dignity, including the reconstruction of what the war, ignited by the Rapid Support Forces militia, has destroyed. Additionally, this would allow Sudan to return to its leading position in the African Union and enable Sudanese embassies in several countries to perform their expected roles.
The sources confirmed to “Al-Muhaqiq” news website that the proposed amendments would not alter the essence of the country’s commitments under the Juba Peace Agreement for Sudan. The committee is exploring ways to reconcile these commitments with the potential structure of the Transitional Sovereign Council and the Council of Ministers, and the powers granted to each under the proposed amendments.
