Italian League: Cagliari Deepens Monza’s Woes

Cagliari deepened the troubles of bottom-placed Monza with a 2-1 victory on Sunday in the 19th round of the Italian Football League.
Monza opened the scoring early in the 6th minute through their forward Gianluca Caprari via a penalty kick. However, the visitors equalized 16 minutes later through Nadir Zortea (22), and Roberto Piccoli scored the winning goal for Cagliari early in the second half (56).
Monza’s task became even more challenging after midfielder Danilo D’Ambrosio was sent off in the 63rd minute.
This victory marked Cagliari’s first win after four consecutive defeats and only their fourth win of the season. They now have 17 points and climbed to 17th place, ahead of Lecce on goal difference. Lecce dropped to 18th place after a goalless draw against Genoa.
On the other hand, Monza, with just one win this season, suffered their 11th defeat, leaving them stuck at 10 points.
Later, Torino faces Parma, while Roma takes on Lazio.
Meanwhile, the matches between Como and AC Milan, Atalanta and Juventus, as well as Inter and Bologna, have been postponed to January 14th and 15th due to Atalanta, Inter, Juventus, and Milan’s participation in the Italian Super Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
