Van Dijk: Alexander-Arnold’s Performance Unaffected by Real Madrid Interest

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has dismissed suggestions that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance has been affected by Real Madrid’s interest in signing him.
The British news agency PA Media reported that the English international right-back was at fault for Manchester United’s opening goal in their 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday and had a generally poor performance throughout the match.
Real Madrid expressed interest earlier this week in signing Alexander-Arnold, whose contract with Liverpool expires this summer. Reports have linked the player with a move to the Spanish giants during the current winter transfer window.
However, Van Dijk, who is also in the final five months of his contract, is unconcerned about the situation.
“I have no concerns about that,” the Liverpool captain said. “Trent has a lot of people around him—his family, and of course us as well.” He added, “He always wants to deliver his best, as we all do, and that’s where his focus lies.”
Van Dijk continued: “In my opinion, maybe that’s a question better directed to him. It’s a distraction from the match.”
Liverpool currently leads the Premier League standings with 46 points, six ahead of second-placed Arsenal, with a game in hand.
