Nigerian Forces Repel Boko Haram Attack in Borno, Kill 34 Militants

The Nigerian Army announced on Wednesday that its forces had killed 34 militants in clashes in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria, where six soldiers also lost their lives.
Army spokesperson General Edward Buba said the clashes occurred on Saturday in the village of Sabon Gari when militants ambushed troops returning to a military base.
The militants, who belong to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), were riding motorcycles and trucks loaded with rifles.
Buba stated that Nigerian forces successfully repelled the attack, supported by the Civilian Joint Task Force militia and volunteer groups.
He added that six soldiers were killed in the encounter, and an improvised explosive device injured a volunteer commander.
The Nigerian Air Force also carried out airstrikes on fleeing militants, causing further casualties.
Nigeria has been grappling with an armed insurgency in its northeast for 16 years, primarily led by Boko Haram and ISWAP. The conflict has caused significant human and economic losses, including mass displacement and a humanitarian crisis.
