Tottenham Coach: Even Salah Would Struggle to Score Goals With Us
Tottenham Hotspur coach Ange Postecoglou remarked that his team’s struggles are so severe that even Liverpool star Mohamed Salah would find it difficult to make an impact if he were part of the squad.
Tottenham, who face the Premier League leaders in the first leg of the EFL Cup semifinal later today, have dropped to 12th in the league standings, losing three of their last four matches.
While Salah has scored 21 goals and provided 17 assists across all competitions this season, Postecoglou suggested that the 32-year-old Egyptian international would face significant challenges replicating such numbers with Tottenham.
“Mohamed Salah is a world-class player, but if he were with us right now, I’m not sure he could deliver the same level of performance given the situation we’re in,” Postecoglou told reporters.
He elaborated, “You need a well-conditioned team that creates chances, imposes its personality, and has a solid defense. None of those things exist for us at the moment. We’re relying on individual brilliance.”
The Tottenham manager also commented on team captain Son Heung-min, who has scored just seven goals across all competitions this season, saying the South Korean would thrive if he were playing for Liverpool.
“If Son joined Liverpool, his scoring numbers would be much better,” he said. “But I believe he’ll return to his best form once we’re back to our peak.”
On Tuesday, Tottenham announced that Son’s contract had been extended by another year, securing the 32-year-old forward’s services for the future.
