Allowing the Use of 1000-500 Pound Banknotes in Khartoum
Sudan Events – Reports
The Operations and Monitoring Room for Currency Exchange at the Central Bank of Sudan issued new regulations and procedures concerning the exchange of 1,000 and 500-pound banknotes.
It decided to make an exception for branches of banks operating in Khartoum State to accept deposits in these banknotes, exchange them for the public, and transfer any surplus cash to the temporary Central Bank of Sudan branch in Khartoum. It also allowed the use of these denominations starting Sunday, January 12.
The decision also provided for the availability of enough currency counting and counterfeit detection machines, increasing the number of service windows for withdrawals, deposits, and account openings to the maximum possible, and coordinating with security authorities to facilitate cash transfers to and from the branch, while preparing and providing reports as determined by the temporary Central Bank branch.
The decision also prohibited banks from transferring currency across states.
