Kallas Comments on Trump’s Statements: Denmark’s Sovereignty Must Be Respected

The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, announced today (Thursday) that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Greenland must be respected, following U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s suggestion of acquiring this Danish territory. Responding to journalists’ questions in Brussels, Kallas stated, “Greenland is part of Denmark… we must respect Greenland’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Trump sparked controversy two weeks ago when he proposed the annexation of Greenland, a Danish territory, to the United States. However, Danish officials have repeatedly affirmed that “Greenland is not for sale.”
