Former Official at the Chamber of Commerce: 60% of Cotton Exports Come from the Gezira

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah

The former Secretary-General of the Chamber of Commerce, Abubakar Al-Siddiq, confirmed that the closure of the Gezira, Darfur, Kordofan, and Blue Nile states halted the flow of Sudanese exports abroad. At the same time, he emphasized that the return of the Gezira and Blue Nile states would significantly contribute to the export process. He pointed out that large quantities of cotton had been stored in the Blue Nile state since last year.

In his conversation with Al-Ahdaath, he stated that 50-60% of the total cotton exports come from the Gezira, in addition to 70% of the ginning factories being located there. He added that opening the Blue Nile route was very important because 30-35% of gum arabic exports pass through the Blue Nile, noting that all Blue Nile gum used to be sold to South Sudan and Chad. He confirmed that liberating these areas from militia control would greatly help the flow of exports.

He expressed hope that Sudan would regain its gum markets in the Blue Nile after Sudanese gum appeared in South Sudan and Chad, thereby bringing back exports and contributing to the rebuilding of the nation.
