Sudan: The Battle of Wad Madani – A Pivotal Moment Marking the End of the Rebellion

Sudan Events – Agencies
The Sudanese army expanded north into the state of Al-Jazeera on Sunday, taking control of several cities after retaking the state’s capital, Wad Madani. The army’s forces seized control of the towns of Al-Hasahisa, Al-Kamilin, Al-Ma’ailiq, and several villages in the northern and eastern parts of Al-Jazeera state. These developments came a day after the liberation of Wad Madani.
The Impact of Wad Madani:
The liberation of Wad Madani, the capital of Al-Jazeera state, caused a significant shock within the militia forces present in the city. The militia’s leader reappeared after a long absence in a four-minute audio recording, in which he complained about the army’s airstrikes. Meanwhile, the militia’s propaganda spread a false narrative of a “tactical withdrawal” to preserve their forces, which had already suffered heavy losses at the hands of the Sudanese Armed Forces. However, these claims proved futile as the militia’s collapse became evident through significant breaches in Khartoum, where the army’s armored division captured the Rawad residential complex near the Al-Lamab area in southern Khartoum, which had been the militia’s largest stronghold. Additionally, the army’s engineering corps seized control of the University of Omdurman Islamic in the Fityhab area west of Omdurman. Meanwhile, the Nile River armies conducted an extensive military operation and now have the Giili Petroleum Refinery surrounded.
A Step Toward the Liberation of Khartoum:
Experts believe that the liberation of Wad Madani marks a crucial step towards the liberation of Khartoum. This is due to the opening of the Al-Jazeera army’s flanks from the southeast of Khartoum, providing them with an open supply line, which will rapidly lead to the control of the southern and eastern areas of Khartoum.
Political Impact:
The political effects of the liberation of Wad Madani were immediately felt. Khalid Omar Youssef, a leading figure in the “Tanzimiyat Taqadam” (Progress Coalition), expressed this shift by referring to the Rapid Support Forces as “gangs” for the first time during his congratulations to the residents of Wad Madani.
It is widely believed that the liberation of Wad Madani represents the beginning of the end of the rebellion in Sudan, with experts comparing it to the Battle of Leningrad, which Hitler lost and never tasted victory again until the Allies entered Berlin and Hitler’s eventual suicide. This is precisely what is expected to happen to the militia forces in Khartoum and throughout Sudan.
