“Handball World Cup”: Egypt Defeats Argentina and Grants Arabs First Victory
The Egyptian national team achieved a decisive victory over Argentina on Wednesday, securing the first Arab win in the Men’s Handball World Cup, which is being held in Croatia, Denmark, and Norway.
According to the German News Agency, Egypt won the match 39-25, after leading 21-11 at halftime. This victory gave Egypt the first two points in Group 8 and boosted its chances of advancing to the second round.
Mohamed Sand, Egypt’s right-winger, was outstanding, scoring 6 goals, while his teammate Ali Zain added 5 goals, earning the “Man of the Match” award.
On the other hand, Lucas Dario Moscardi was Argentina’s top scorer with 7 goals from 9 attempts, achieving a success rate of 78%.
Egypt will now face Bahrain in an all-Arab match on Friday for the second round, while Argentina will have a tough challenge against Croatia.
In another match at the same time, the Czech Republic drew with Switzerland 17-17 in Group 1.
Arab teams began their journey in the handball World Cup with four defeats on Tuesday. Tunisia lost to Italy 25-32 in the opening match of Group 2. Algeria was defeated by the defending champions Denmark 22-47 in the same group. In Group 3, Qatar lost to France 19-37, while Kuwait was beaten by Austria 26-37.
The Handball World Championship features 32 teams divided into 8 groups. The top 3 teams from each group advance to the second round, where 24 teams will compete in 4 groups. The top two from each of those groups will qualify for the quarterfinals.
The last-place teams in each group from the first round will compete in the President’s Cup to determine positions 25-32.
