The joint forces of the armed struggle movements, alongside the Sudanese Armed Forces, announced that they had thwarted desperate attempts by the Janjaweed militia and its mercenaries, who sought to reorganize their ranks following successive defeats and to reopen supply routes for military equipment and fuel to their besieged forces in Darfur.
In a statement, the joint forces reported, “The confrontation resulted in the elimination of over 680 Janjaweed militia and foreign mercenaries, the destruction of 37 military vehicles, and the seizure of more than 65 vehicles in excellent condition equipped with the latest armaments. Meanwhile, the mercenaries scattered in the border triangle, with some fleeing back to Libyan territory, while others sought refuge in Chad.”
The statement added: “The battle began with the first maneuver in Bir Mergi when the Janjaweed militia attempted to infiltrate from the Libyan border towards the Sudanese-Libyan-Chadian international border triangle. This desperate attempt aimed to break the siege imposed by our forces on the militia in Darfur. This move followed our complete control over the international border triangle, the Great Desert, and Wadi Howar, cutting off all supply lines to the terrorist militia. These mercenary forces, trained and armed with Emirati weapons in eastern Libya, were prepared months ago by the UAE to launch such military operations and to bolster the militia as a last resort to save the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) defeated militarily on all battlefronts in Sudan. However, they underestimated the readiness and vigilance of our forces. Thanks to precise intelligence, our forces successfully ambushed the infiltrators, neutralized their attempt to smuggle weapons, supplies, and fuel, and dealt a crushing blow to them.”
The statement further detailed: “At the same time, the Janjaweed militia attempted a diversionary attack from the south, launching from Mellit towards areas under our control in Darei Shaghi and Mount Mao, which we had recently secured. Our forces, fully alert, confronted the attack with extraordinary bravery. After a fierce battle, over 270 militia members were eliminated, 24 military vehicles destroyed, and 13 others captured in good condition and armed with various weapons.”
The statement concluded, “The overall results of these military operations and heroic efforts demonstrate the strength and resilience of our joint forces. More than 870 militia members and mercenaries have been eliminated, 70 military vehicles destroyed, and over 85 vehicles seized in excellent condition. The remnants of the militia were forced to retreat towards Mellit, where our forces are pursuing them to clear all areas they attempted to infiltrate.”
