The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry by Engineer Sadek Mahmoud Jaber, Director General of the General Administration of Oil Exploration and Production, and on behalf of the Russian Chamber of Commerce by Shmidanov Viktor Nikolaevich, President of the Chamber. The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Minister of Energy and Oil, Dr. Mohieddin Naeem Mohammed Said, along with several company directors.
Dr. Mohieddin Naeem, the Minister of Energy and Oil, welcomed the partnership with Russia in Sudan’s oil industry at all stages (exploration, oil production, transportation, and export), praising the Russian delegation’s willingness and eagerness to work in Sudan. He affirmed that this signing represents a serious step for Russia’s investment in Sudan’s energy and oil sector, supporting the country’s strategy for development in the oil industry. The ministry will assist in implementing this strategy, which will contribute to the advancement of both nations, and is a forward-looking step for post-war actions in the country, emphasizing that oil is the driving force of development in Sudan.
In a related context, a technical session was held with stakeholders in the oil sector, where both parties discussed the technical aspects of available opportunities, ways of cooperation, and the exchange of expertise.
On his part, the head of the Russian delegation, Shmidanov Viktor Nikolaevich, thanked the Ministry of Energy and Oil and Bashair Oil Pipelines Company for their cooperation, stating, “We have noticed significant progress in the company, and yesterday we visited one of the stations. Now, from the presentation, we can see that you have highly skilled personnel and expertise. We hope to implement the strategy between the two countries and embody the spirit of cooperation, transforming it into action for the strategic plan to benefit both nations.”
Viktor Nikolaevich added that Russia has significant experience in oil extraction and processing and handling various types of crude oil. “We are fully prepared for joint cooperation, especially since we have localized many technologies. From the presentation, we noticed some difficulties facing the company, such as issues with engines and spare parts. We are ready to assist, knowing that the work in the oil sector has exceeded twenty years. This means that the equipment and machinery will soon need to be replaced. There is an urgent need for maintenance and replacement of spare parts, and we will work together to gradually rehabilitate and replace the equipment, providing spare parts in line with an agreement.” He also mentioned that Russia has technology for pump repairs and will provide training in all fields related to the energy and oil sector.
It is worth noting that the General Director of Bashair Oil Pipelines Company presented a visual presentation about the company, welcoming cooperation with the Russian delegation and emphasizing collaboration with Russian technicians, especially regarding cathodic protection to ensure the continued safety of the transport line and the development of stations, which requires advanced technology for protecting oil facilities.
