After tireless efforts… Most services return to Old Omdurman Area
Sudan Events – Follow-ups
In rapid steps taken by the Khartoum State Government, Omdurman Locality, and partners from organizations, Omdurman is witnessing the restoration of all components of life after recovery, which affected the service institutions. The restoration began with the largest campaign of its kind in the country, involving the removal of tons of war debris and waste in a heroic effort, where the majority of the work was supported by the Human Able organization, with full support from the local cleaning equipment.
Omdurman started from a better state of cleanliness than it was in the past.
The Executive Director of Omdurman Locality, Saif al-Din Mukhtar, stated that Old Omdurman had fully recovered from the devastating effects of the war, with only electricity needs remaining in some areas. He added that recovery would be complete with the return of the citizens. He said that his locality had encouraged traders to return, and now a considerable number of traders have resumed their activities in Omdurman Market, which now serves the local residents who have arrived in large numbers from other states and settled in the locality’s neighborhoods. Police stations have resumed work, contributing to the maintenance of security, and thefts have stopped thanks to joint patrols.
He further added, “In addition, many grocery stores, butchers, vegetable markets, and bakeries have resumed their activities.”
Meanwhile, during the recent water crisis and electricity cuts, Omdurman Locality, along with the relevant authorities, made significant efforts to operate the wells and meet their needs.
