La Liga: Atlético Madrid Draws with Villarreal, Missing Chance to Lead

Atlético Madrid settled for a 1-1 draw with Villarreal on Saturday in the 21st round of La Liga, squandering the opportunity to top the league standings, even temporarily.

The draw pushed Atlético’s tally to 45 points, leaving them in second place, just one point behind league leaders Real Madrid, who are set to face Valladolid later on Saturday.

On the other hand, Villarreal climbed to fifth place with 34 points.

Villarreal took the lead in the 29th minute through a penalty converted by Gerard Moreno, but Samuel Lino equalized for Atlético Madrid in the 58th minute.
