Nigeria Captures Senior Boko Haram Leader
The Nigerian army has captured a prominent leader of Boko Haram, known by his alias “Abu Akrama,” during a large-scale military operation targeting terrorism in the Borno region, in northeastern Nigeria near the Chad and Niger borders.
According to local Nigerian media, “Abu Akrama” was a local leader in charge of a Boko Haram faction controlling large areas in Borno State. However, his identity remains largely undisclosed, except that he holds Nigerian nationality.
The arrest was described as a “major blow” to the terrorist group and a “significant success” for the military operation, codenamed “Hadinkai.”
The operation also dealt a heavy blow to a Boko Haram faction by destroying its camps and killing hundreds of its fighters. Military sources confirmed the arrest occurred during intense battles after “Abu Akrama” attempted to flee but was surrounded and captured alive.
Zagazola Makama, an expert on security affairs in the Lake Chad Basin, explained on social media: “The army completely destroyed Abu Akrama’s stronghold, eliminating hundreds of his fighters. While he attempted to escape, he was captured with ease.”
Makama noted that “Abu Akrama” was one of Boko Haram’s most prominent warlords, holding significant authority in areas such as Mantari, Gabchari, Kashimiri, and Maimusari, all under the control of Borno State in northeastern Nigeria.
