Premier League: Salah Scores as Liverpool Extends Lead; Arsenal in Pursuit

Liverpool solidified their Premier League lead with a commanding 4-1 win over Ipswich Town in the 23rd round on Saturday.

Liverpool’s goals came courtesy of Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah, and Cody Gakpo (twice) in the 11th, 35th, 44th, and 66th minutes. Ipswich’s sole reply came from Jacob Greaves in the 90th minute.

The Egyptian star Salah netted his 19th league goal of the season, maintaining his position at the top of the Premier League scoring chart. Additionally, Salah celebrated his 176th Premier League goal, surpassing Thierry Henry’s 175 to claim seventh place on the league’s all-time top scorers list.

Salah is now the second-highest foreign scorer in Premier League history, trailing only Sergio Agüero (184 goals). He also marked his 100th league goal at Anfield.

Liverpool now has 53 points with a game in hand, while Ipswich Town remains in 18th place with 16 points, having suffered their third consecutive and 13th overall loss this season.

Taking advantage of Nottingham Forest’s 5-0 defeat to Bournemouth, Liverpool increased their lead at the top. Bournemouth’s goals came from Justin Kluivert, Dango Ouattara (hat-trick), and Antoine Semenyo. Nottingham Forest remains in third place with 44 points, while Bournemouth climbed to sixth with 40 points.

Arsenal secured second place after a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Wolverhampton. Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori scored the decisive goal in the 74th minute. Both teams finished with ten players following red cards to Wolves’ João Gomes and Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Arsenal now has 47 points, six behind Liverpool, while Wolves sit 17th with 16 points.

In another match, Newcastle United moved into the top four with a 3-1 win at Southampton. Goals from Alexander Isak (two) and Sandro Tonali overturned an early strike by Jan Bednarek. Newcastle now holds 41 points in fourth, while Southampton remains last with six points.

Elsewhere, Everton continued their resurgence under David Moyes, beating Brighton 1-0 through an Iliman Ndiaye penalty in the 42nd minute. Everton now sits 16th with 23 points, while Brighton is ninth with 34 points, ending a six-match unbeaten run.
