Postecoglou: Tottenham Must Reinforce During Transfer Window

Under pressure, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou hopes to strengthen his squad in the remaining days of the transfer window following Sunday’s 2-1 home defeat to Leicester City.

The Australian manager fielded an injury-depleted squad, with midfielder James Maddison the latest absentee.

Richarlison, who headed Spurs into the lead in the first half, was forced off with a thigh injury. Postecoglou revealed that several players started the match despite not being fully fit.

“I’ve said all along that the players need help, and I’ve also said the club is working hard to address some of these issues,” Postecoglou told reporters. “Pape Sarr shouldn’t have played today. Clearly, he wasn’t fit. There were probably at least two players out there who shouldn’t have been involved, but they tried their best to turn things around for us.”

The defeat left Spurs 15th in the Premier League table, just eight points above the relegation zone. Fans voiced their frustration, booing loudly at the final whistle and chanting against chairman Daniel Levy for his failure to invest in the squad.

Postecoglou acknowledged the tough circumstances but said he understands he will ultimately be judged on results.

When asked if he believes he will stay in the role long enough to benefit from returning players, the Australian said:
“Who knows? I’m sure there are plenty out there saying no. As a manager, you can feel very isolated at times. But I don’t feel that way. The players are still giving their all for this club, and I have a fantastic staff who are doing the same.”
