Kelly, Manchester City Women’s Star: I’m Frustrated About My Future

Chloe Kelly, the forward for the England women’s football team, revealed that her mental health is being affected by her inability to control her future, with only five months left on her contract with Manchester City.
Kelly scored the winning goal for England in the 2022 Women’s European Championship final and has been linked with a move to Manchester United.
She admitted that she accepts her future may not lie with Manchester City, but with the closure of the winter transfer window on Thursday, she revealed her frustration, mentioning that she is facing “impositions” on which club she could join if she decides to leave now.
Kelly wrote on Instagram, “As the UEFA Women’s Euro approaches, this summer will be very important, and I want to be in a position to give my best performance to represent my country. It’s something that always fills me with great pride, and I truly feel honored to do so.”
She added, “But having others dictate where I can go and where I can’t go with only four months left in the football season has a significant impact—not just on my career but also on my mental well-being.”
Kelly mentioned that the situation has “gone on for a long time,” and it’s “not okay.”
Kelly joined Manchester City in 2020 from Everton.
She emphasized, “The real lesson I’ve learned in my life is that while I can’t control someone else’s negative behavior toward me, I can control how long I’m willing to tolerate it.”
