Postecoglou: Tottenham Recovering from Injuries

Sudan Events – Agencies

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou believes the team’s injury crisis is easing but plans to manage key players’ minutes against Brentford in preparation for a crucial week ahead.

According to British news agency PA Media, Spurs will visit Brentford on Sunday in an important Premier League clash, followed by their most significant match of the season against Liverpool on Thursday, as they aim to secure a spot in the English League Cup final.

The team will then face Aston Villa in the FA Cup on February 9, and within days, Tottenham is expected to regain six injured players: Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, Wilson Odobert, Timo Werner, and Brennan Johnson.

Micky van de Ven made his return in Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Elfsborg on Thursday, but manager Postecoglou saw defender Radu Drăgușin suffer a knee injury in the same match.

While Spurs desperately need points after six defeats in their last seven league games, Postecoglou is determined to manage the minutes of Van de Ven, as well as Pedro Porro, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison, ahead of the big clash at Anfield.

Jokingly, Postecoglou said: “Every time I see a light at the end of the tunnel, it usually turns out to be an oncoming train.”

He added: “Clearly, we have a big week ahead, but we also face Villa in the cup, and after that, we have a full week before playing Manchester United on February 16. That’s the week when all these players are expected to start returning to training.”

He continued: “Having a full week of training with these players available before facing Manchester United could be a key moment for us to regain balance this season, especially in the league. But we also have important cup matches coming up.”

He emphasized: “That’s why I’m trying to manage the available players’ minutes—we don’t want to lose anyone else.”

Postecoglou concluded: “We have a huge week ahead, starting Sunday. We have to approach this match carefully with the squad we have available.”
