Sabreen Market… A New Massacre Against Innocent Civilians

Sudan Events – Agencies
Continuing its crimes against civilians in safe areas, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia bombed Sabreen Market in Omdurman, Khartoum State, on Saturday. The attack resulted in the deaths of approximately 60 civilians and injured more than 150 others in yet another atrocity committed by the rebel militia against the people. The RSF has consistently targeted civilian infrastructure, residential homes, and public service facilities, confirming that its war is indeed a war against the nation and its citizens.
Government Condemnation
The Minister of Culture and Information, and official government spokesperson, Khalid Ali Al-Iyssir, strongly condemned the treacherous terrorist attack launched by the RSF militia on Sabreen Market in Omdurman on Saturday. The attack caused a large number of civilian casualties, including children, women, and the elderly, in addition to extensive destruction of both public and private properties.
In a statement, Al-Iyssir said, “This criminal act adds to the bloody record of this militia, following its bombardment of the city of El Fasher, displacement camps, and residential neighborhoods in Omdurman and other areas of Sudan. This constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.”
Calls for RSF to be Designated as a Terrorist Organization
The Minister of Information further stated, “The Government of Sudan stands with the families of the victims and all those affected by this terrorist attack, as well as previous attacks in other parts of the country. We call on the international community and human rights organizations to classify this militia as a terrorist organization and hold those responsible for these mass killings accountable—especially the fugitive rebel leader, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), along with the countries that supply him, his militia, and mercenaries with weapons that have claimed the lives of innocent civilians.”
Al-Iyssir emphasized the urgent need to protect civilians across Sudan at all times and ensure they are safeguarded from any threats. He reaffirmed the Sudanese government’s full commitment to protecting its people and supporting the legitimate military institution—the Sudanese Armed Forces—in its continued sacrifices to defend the nation and restore security and stability.
Minni Minnawi Condemns the Militia
Meanwhile, the Governor of the Darfur region, Minni Arko Minnawi, strongly condemned the RSF militia’s crimes against civilians in Omdurman’s neighborhoods and Sabreen Market. In a Facebook post, Minnawi specifically addressed “the massacre at Sabreen Market today, which claimed the lives of more than 60 unarmed civilians.”
He added, “Civilians are subjected daily to systematic artillery shelling that targets neighborhoods, markets, and hospitals across the country, further endangering their lives and exacerbating their suffering. However, despite these atrocities, the people of Omdurman and El Fasher remain determined to persevere, carrying hope in their hearts. Their resilience is another victory to be added to the records of our Armed Forces in this war for dignity.”
Sudanese Congress Party Weighs In
The Vice President of the Sudanese Congress Party, Khalid Omar, also condemned the RSF’s artillery shelling of Sabreen Market in Omdurman, which resulted in dozens of innocent civilian casualties. He described the attack as a “war crime in its entirety” and part of “the ongoing bloodshed that has plagued the Sudanese people since the war erupted.”
In a Facebook post, Omar strongly denounced the shelling and called for those responsible to be held accountable. He added, “This war is an absolute evil, a curse upon our country. There is no good in it, nor in those who advocate for its continuation, profit from it, or cover up its crimes—whether in support of one side or the other.”
