Clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continue in several areas across Sudan, with fighting intensifying in recent weeks as the army advances in the capital, Khartoum. The army’s progress has sparked joy among Sudanese citizens who eagerly await the full restoration of control over the capital.
Full Control:
On Tuesday, the Sudanese army announced significant advances in the Kamlin axis in Al-Jazirah state, central Sudan, claiming it had “cleansed the area of RSF forces.”
Local sources told Al Jazeera that the army had established control over Kamlin, the last RSF stronghold in Al-Jazirah state, making the state fully under army control, except for a few small pockets.
Kamlin is the largest city in northern Al-Jazirah state, located about 65 kilometers from the capital, Khartoum. Activists shared videos of Sudanese citizens celebrating in Kamlin after the army regained control of the city.
The RSF did not comment on the army’s announcement, but the adviser to the RSF commander, Al-Basha Tariq, claimed that RSF forces in the East Nile axis of Khartoum state had repelled a Sudan Shield Force unit supporting the army.
Social Media Reactions:
On social media, activists commented on these developments, with some expressing joy. An activist named “Kount” wrote, “The news coming from Sudan is heartwarming. The Sudanese army has taken full control of central Al-Jazirah state and entered Kamlin, the last RSF stronghold in the state.”
Another activist, Halafawi, wrote, “The joy of the Sudanese people as the armed forces enter Kamlin. Is this the nation you want to rule? Isn’t this proof enough that this war you are waging is against our people?”
On the other hand, Abu Ali commented, “The liberation of Khartoum starts now from Kamlin.”
Sudanese Sovereign Council President General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan recently visited the town of Wad Abu Saleh, east of Khartoum, which the army had recaptured. He vowed to pursue the RSF forces.
Al-Burhan also spoke about Soba Bridge, a vital link between the East Nile area and southern Khartoum, which is currently the main RSF stronghold.
In the latest developments, the Sudanese army announced on Wednesday that it had taken control of Al-Ramila neighborhood, the medical supplies headquarters, and the currency mint building in Khartoum.
Field sources told Al Jazeera that the army is now close to Al-Ghaba Street, which leads to central Khartoum, where RSF forces are currently positioned.
