Kremlin: We Admire Trump’s Stance on Ending the Ukraine War

The Kremlin expressed its admiration on Thursday for U.S. President Donald Trump’s position on ending the war in Ukraine and stated that preparations are underway for a bilateral meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that both the Russian and American sides have the political will to reach a settlement and bring an end to the three-year-long war.

The Kremlin expressed its desire to arrange a direct meeting between the two presidents “as soon as possible,” following a lengthy phone call between the leaders.

“There is certainly a need for the meeting to take place quickly. There are many issues for the presidents to discuss,” Peskov told reporters.

Putin and Trump spoke on the phone for more than an hour on Wednesday.

Later, Trump stated that Ukraine’s accession to NATO is impractical, a goal Kyiv had been pursuing to ensure its future security.

When asked about Putin’s invitation for Trump to visit Moscow, Peskov said that both leaders exchanged invitations, but the bilateral meeting is progressing separately.

“The call on Wednesday confirmed that there is political will for dialogue in pursuit of a settlement… There is agreement that a peaceful resolution through negotiations is possible,” Peskov stated.

“The previous U.S. administration believed that everything should be done to keep the war going. However, the current administration, as far as we know, believes that everything should be done to stop the war and establish peace,” he added.

“We admire the stance of the current administration and remain open to dialogue.”

When asked whether European nations would participate in the peace talks, Peskov responded, “It is too early to discuss that.”
