Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Youssef dismissed U.S. allegations that the Sudanese army possesses chemical weapons, stressing that accusations against Sudan of using such weapons in the war are false.
His remarks came during a panel discussion titled “Politics and the Humanitarian Crisis” at the Munich Security Conference.
Youssef stated, “The Sudanese army has not committed violations or breaches in this war, and there is no evidence to support such claims.” He added, “The Sudanese army does not possess chemical weapons, and any accusations of using them are baseless.”
During the discussion, Youssef accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of committing atrocities and crimes against the Sudanese people, saying:
“The RSF burned down the National Museum, which housed Sudan’s history, and destroyed the National Archives, which contained over 100 years of Sudan’s historical records.”
He also warned that “there are those who seek to destroy Sudan and eliminate it,” without specifying any particular party.
Additionally, Youssef noted that the Sudanese government is committed to achieving peace and has proposed a roadmap that includes:
Forming a civilian government for a transitional period of 1 to 3 years
Appointing a civilian prime minister
Establishing a cabinet composed of independent technocrats
Holding general elections at the end of the transition, allowing the Sudanese people to choose their leadership.
