The chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Jim Risch, has outlined the conditions for easing American sanctions on Syria.
Last Thursday, Risch, who heads the U.S. Foreign Relations Committee, announced a list of four expectations for the Syrian transitional government led by President Ahmed Al-Sharaa.
The conditions include eliminating Russian and Iranian influence in the country, especially given the new government’s increasing cooperation with Moscow.
Additionally, the list requires evidence that the interim government will not allow Syria to become a launchpad for terrorist attacks against the United States and its partners, the destruction of the Assad regime’s stockpile of Captagon, and the disclosure of the fate of American citizens detained by former President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, including journalist Austin Tice, according to The National.
Risch stated, “Let’s see how the new interim government in Syria will act,” urging President Donald Trump’s administration to address this issue as soon as possible and integrate these demands into its emerging Syria policy.
