The technical meetings of the Sudan-Iran Political Consultation Committee are set to begin on Sunday in the Iranian capital, Tehran, ahead of the main meeting on Monday. The Sudanese side will be led by Foreign Minister Dr. Ali Youssef, while the Iranian side will be headed by Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
Sudan’s Ambassador to Iran, Abdulaziz Hassan Saleh, described the meeting as significant. He emphasized that the importance of the consultation committee stems from it being the first such meeting since the resumption of diplomatic relations and the reopening of embassies in Tehran and Port Sudan after an eight-year hiatus.
Ambassador Abdulaziz highlighted that these meetings hold special importance given the current circumstances in Sudan and Iran, as well as the rapid developments in the Middle East and the world. He noted that the discussions present an opportunity for further consultation and coordination on bilateral, regional, and international issues.
The two foreign ministers are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding to establish the Political Consultation Committee, formalizing its regular meetings, leadership level, and agenda for the future.
