Munich Conference… Sudan Enters Europe Through the Gate of Security Diplomacy

Sudan Events – Agencies
Sudan is participating for three days in the 61st edition of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, with a delegation led by Foreign Minister Ali Yusuf Al-Sharif and General Director of the National Intelligence and Security Service, Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal. The conference discusses urgent national defense and security issues in the context of conflicts, transatlantic relations, and geopolitical challenges.
The conference is one of the most prominent events where conflicting nations meet, and global intelligence agencies, presidents, and foreign ministers also attend. These agencies hold side meetings with broad mandates from their respective countries.
A Significant Breakthrough: Experts believe that Sudan’s participation in the conference at this time represents a major achievement and breakthrough.
Security and military expert, Lieutenant General Jalal Tawer, stated that Sudan’s participation at this moment is a clear acknowledgment of the Sudanese government, considering it a major breakthrough in Sudan’s international relations. Tawer further explained that Sudan’s invitation to the conference at this time is a significant success for Sudanese security diplomacy in European relations, adding that Sudan’s participation represents a great success for Sudanese diplomacy and security agencies, as well as an acknowledgment of the legitimacy of the current government.
Sudan and Europe… Steady Improvement: Experts believe that Sudan’s participation in the Munich Security Conference is the culmination of security diplomatic moves led by Sudan toward Europe, especially France and Italy, culminating in the recent visit of the French envoy to Port Sudan. Media reported a famous statement in which the envoy confirmed he would meet with all political forces except for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which did happen. Experts view these developments as the fruits of efforts made by the intelligence directorate in both the European and Arab spheres.
Reaping the Rewards: Political analyst Dr. Mohamed Osman believes that Sudan’s official agencies have successfully exposed the Rapid Support Forces militia by highlighting the genocide and ethnic cleansing it has carried out in the areas it occupied. Osman noted that bringing these crimes to light has pushed Europe to distance itself from the RSF and approach Sudan’s official security agencies. He added that Sudan’s participation in the Munich Security Conference, with the involvement of all European nations and the U.S. vice president, signals that Europe will only deal with the current Sudanese government as the legitimate one. This means the conference is essentially a message to those backing efforts to form a government in RSF-controlled areas that Europe will not recognize anything but the current government in Sudan.
More Than Just Participation: Thus, experts argue that this is more than just participation in an annual security conference; it is a formal recognition of the current Sudanese government. Implicitly, it buries any attempts to form a government in RSF-controlled areas. Moreover, the conference’s significance goes beyond Sudan’s participation. According to sources, understandings will take place between Sudan’s intelligence services and their counterparts from other nations at the conference, which will mark a turning point in Sudan-EU relations. It will also be a significant blow to the militia that seeks to form a government that will be born dead, with no one to offer condolences.
These successes that Sudan is beginning to reap internationally have resulted from persistent work and well-planned strategies led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Intelligence and Security Service, culminating in isolating Europe from supporting the militias and officially recognizing the current government and inviting it to participate in a crucial security conference.
