Sudan Events – Reports
Amnesty International stated that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia’s attacks on displaced civilians seeking safety in a famine-stricken camp in Darfur, as well as the looting of its market, are “unbearable.”
This was mentioned in a statement responding to RSF attacks on Zamzam IDP camp near El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur.
Tigere Chagutah, Amnesty International’s Regional Director for East and Southern Africa, called on the RSF and all other parties in the conflict to “immediately cease all attacks on civilians and stop using civilian-populated areas, including IDP camps, as battlegrounds.”
He added, “They must also immediately allow safe passage for civilians trying to flee the violence.”
According to Amnesty, the continued RSF siege on El Fasher and the attacks on Zamzam camp highlight the “urgent need” for genuine international pressure on the warring parties to stop targeting civilians.
The organization reported that on February 11, RSF forces entered Zamzam camp, which shelters half a million displaced people, “killing and detaining many residents.”
It further stated that RSF forces attacked the camp again on February 13.
