U.S. and Russian Delegations Arrive in Riyadh to Prepare for Trump-Putin Summit

On Monday morning, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz will arrive in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. Also expected is Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of the U.S. president to the Middle East. The American officials are scheduled to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Later in the evening, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is also set to arrive.
The planned talks between U.S. and Russian officials aim to bring an end to Moscow’s nearly three-year-long war in Ukraine. Trump has directed senior officials to initiate negotiations on the conflict, which he repeatedly pledged to resolve during his election campaign.
American media outlets have reported that U.S. and Russian officials will meet in Saudi Arabia to prepare for a potential summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump later this month, though no official date has been set.
