Chad Announces Elimination of 297 Boko Haram Fighters, Including Leaders

The Chadian army announced on Tuesday the conclusion of a large-scale military operation against Boko Haram strongholds in the Lake Chad Basin, eliminating 297 fighters, including senior leaders.
In a press statement, the army declared the operation a “success,” asserting that Boko Haram no longer poses a threat within Chadian territory, following a series of significant blows dealt to the group in recent months.
General Hannan Issaka Sheikh, Director of Communications for the Chadian army, confirmed the conclusion of Operation “Haskanet” against Boko Haram positions in the Lake Chad region. The operation, which lasted over three months, was launched on November 7, 2024, by Chadian President Mahamat Déby in response to an attack by Boko Haram on October 25, 2024, that killed more than 40 Chadian soldiers.
The army spokesperson explained that Operation “Haskanet” was launched from the Kaiga-Kindjiria area, combining ground and air strikes to target Boko Haram’s strongholds within Chad.
He added that the operation resulted in neutralizing 297 terrorists, injuring 163 others, seizing 112 individual firearms, five heavy weapons, and recovering seven speedboats equipped with 12mm cannons. Additionally, 15 speedboats and 13 traditional boats were destroyed.
A statement from the Chadian army confirmed the elimination of several key Boko Haram leaders, including Kani Diougoni, who was responsible for the 2022 “Barkatolom” attack and the recent “Barkaram” attack.
The army also announced the elimination of Abdul Rahman Moussa, deputy to Kani Diougoni, along with Abu Kari, the group’s ground operations commander, and other senior figures, including Gania, Adam Molo, Mal Hassan, and Abakar.
