Local residents in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, have complained about irregularities by the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Civil Administration of Nyala Municipality in the distribution of humanitarian aid to citizens in various neighborhoods.
Ahmed Ibrahim, an aid distribution representative, told Darfur24 that the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) allocated financial aid for 1,778 people in the southern neighborhoods of the city after they were registered in early December.
He added: “After the intervention of the Civil Administration of Nyala Municipality and the Ministry of Social Welfare, the targeted number was reduced and replaced with food baskets for only 800 people, with large neighborhoods receiving 75 food baskets, while smaller and medium-sized neighborhoods received 55 and 35 baskets, respectively.”
Ahmed also stated that the municipality deliberately stamped registration and census forms with its seals to maintain control over aid distribution.
