Russia Adds 174 “Nationalist” Organizations to the “Terror List”

As attention in Russia turned toward significant amendments to the list of organizations classified as terrorist entities, as well as those supporting or promoting activities that threaten national security, the Russian financial monitoring agency “Rosfinmonitoring” announced the expansion of its terror list. The agency added 174 organizations and institutions, along with dozens of individuals accused of involvement in terrorism and extremism.

The new list includes nationalist-leaning organizations. Among them is the “League of Free Nations,” which had already been banned by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Justice in 2023. In November 2024, the Supreme Court upheld the charges against the group and officially designated it as a terrorist organization.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the leaders of this organization—who hold foreign citizenships and reside permanently in Lithuania, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine—have called for violating Russia’s territorial integrity and promoted separatist nationalist slogans. The organization has been accused of advocating for the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial unity and describing Russia’s presence in the south and east of the country as an occupation.

The new list also includes the Russian branch of the religious sect “Aum Shinrikyo,” which had previously been classified as a terrorist group in Russia.

Additionally, other organizations added to the list include the “Union of Caucasian Forces,” the “Yakutia Independence Movement,” “Free Vyborg,” the “Siberian Battalion,” and the “New Tuva Foundation.” All of these groups are accused of promoting extreme nationalist rhetoric or supporting policies that undermine Russia’s territorial unity and sovereignty.
