Sudan: Merger of Bashayer Energy Ltd. and Petrotrans Transport into Nile Petroleum Company Ltd.

Port Sudan – Sudan Events

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Dr. Muhyiddin Naim Mohammed Saeed, announced that Bashayer Energy Ltd. and Petrotrans Petroleum Transport have been merged into Nile Petroleum Company Ltd.

He explained that this decision was driven by several factors, including aligning with the advancements made by the armed forces in reclaiming Gezira State and most of Khartoum State, as well as progress in Kordofan and Darfur. This comes in preparation for an expected increase in petroleum consumption, as Khartoum and Gezira states account for approximately 70% of the country’s total fuel consumption. Additionally, the merger aims to integrate the roles of the three companies rather than foster competition, while enabling Petrotrans to fulfill its role in transporting petroleum products to areas inaccessible to the private sector. He also commended the private sector for playing a crucial role in meeting the country’s fuel needs throughout the war.

Dr. Saeed emphasized that the ministry’s policy is to support the private sector rather than restrict its activities, especially given the liberalization of fuel prices.

With this merger, Nile Petroleum Company Ltd. has now assumed all contractual obligations previously held by Bashayer Energy Ltd. and Petrotrans Transport. The company is committed to fulfilling all rights and responsibilities towards its partners and stakeholders.

It is noteworthy that Nile Petroleum Ltd. and Bashayer Energy Ltd. specialize in importing and distributing petroleum products and own a number of fuel service stations, both being government-owned entities. Meanwhile, Petrotrans focuses on petroleum transportation and operates a fleet of fuel tankers. The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum holds a 100% ownership stake in both Nile Petroleum and Petrotrans.
