Britain and Pakistan to Strengthen Counterterrorism Efforts

Pakistan and the United Kingdom held the second round of their “Bilateral Counterterrorism Dialogue” in London from February 17 to 18, 2025, reaffirming their commitment to combating global security threats through enhanced cooperation.

The delegations were led by Abdul Hameed Khan, Director General for Counterterrorism at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Katie Jenkins, Joint Director for National Security at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. Discussions focused on global and regional security challenges, including evolving terrorist threats.

A statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that one of the key topics of discussion was the situation in Afghanistan. The two sides reviewed recent international reports and assessed potential security risks emanating from Afghan territory.

The dialogue also included exchanges on best practices in law enforcement, security, criminal justice, the rule of law, counterterrorism financing, and capacity-building efforts to address emerging trends in terrorism. Both nations explored new avenues for cooperation, emphasizing the continuity of their bilateral counterterrorism efforts.

The two sides agreed to continue their dialogue, with the third round of the “Pakistan-UK Counterterrorism Dialogue” scheduled to take place in Islamabad in 2026, with dates to be determined later.
