Key Amendments to the Constitutional Document

Sudan Events – Agencies

High-level sources have revealed details regarding the latest amendments to the constitutional document.

Sources told Al-Sharq that the amendments include adding two additional seats for the armed forces in the Sovereign Council, increasing their total from four to six.

Additionally, certain provisions referring to the “Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Rapid Support Forces, and other regular forces” have been modified to refer collectively to the “Commander-in-Chief of the Regular Forces.”

The amendments also grant Sudanese military leaders the authority to nominate the head of the Sovereign Council and recommend their dismissal.

Furthermore, the decision to reduce the number of ministries to 16 has been reversed, keeping the total at 26, while maintaining the power-sharing agreement for Juba Peace Agreement signatories.
