High-Stakes Clash Between Liverpool and Struggling Man City in the Premier League

After failing to win their last two away matches, Liverpool faces another major challenge on the road in the Premier League as they visit Manchester City at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. This highly anticipated match is part of the 26th round of the competition, where Liverpool has been leading the standings for some time.
Liverpool, aiming to reclaim the league title after a four-year drought, currently tops the table with 61 points from 26 matches, eight points ahead of second-placed Arsenal, who have played one game less. The Reds are eager to return to winning ways away from Anfield after consecutive 2-2 draws against local rivals Everton and Aston Villa. So far this season, they have secured nine wins and five draws from their 14 away league matches.
Liverpool’s players understand that securing a positive result against City would significantly strengthen their title aspirations, bringing them closer to their 20th league title and matching the all-time record held by Manchester United.
On the other hand, Manchester City is looking to bounce back after their early elimination from the Champions League playoff round at the hands of Real Madrid. City suffered a heavy 3-1 defeat in the second leg in Madrid on Wednesday, following a 3-2 loss in the first leg at home.
Pep Guardiola’s squad sees a victory over Liverpool as a way to restore some pride after dominating the Premier League with four consecutive titles.
However, City is enduring a season to forget both domestically and in Europe. In addition to their shock Champions League exit—after winning the tournament in 2023—they have also fallen out of contention for the Premier League title, currently sitting fourth with 44 points from 25 matches. City also made an early exit from the EFL Cup.
The match will feature an all-Egyptian showdown between Liverpool’s star forward Mohamed Salah and Manchester City’s new signing Omar Marmoush. Marmoush joined City during the winter transfer window from Eintracht Frankfurt for €75 million.
