Simeone: We Are Concerned About Valencia’s Improvement

Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone has acknowledged that Valencia has improved in recent months and has become a tough competitor despite their low ranking. His comments came ahead of Atlético’s visit to Mestalla on Saturday in La Liga.

Atlético previously secured a 3-0 victory over Valencia at Wanda Metropolitano in September. Valencia currently sits 18th in the standings, with five wins to their name.

Atlético Madrid is third in the league with 50 points from 24 matches, trailing Barcelona, the leader, and second-placed Real Madrid by just one point.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Simeone said, “Anyone who has watched Valencia play recently will see they are different from a few months ago. They have more strength and tactical discipline, and with their home crowd behind them, they become even more dangerous.”

Simeone’s team missed a golden opportunity to go top of the league after drawing 1-1 with Celta Vigo last Saturday.

After two consecutive draws in La Liga, Atlético will be looking to return to winning ways against a Valencia side that remains unbeaten in their last three league matches.

Simeone added, “We’ve had the chance to play in several important matches, and we will approach this one with the same attitude. Valencia has improved under their new coach, Carlos Corberán, and has become much more organized, which has helped them move forward.”

The Argentine coach also expressed his support for French striker Antoine Griezmann, who has scored 15 goals and provided six assists in 35 appearances across all competitions this season.

“He is an exceptional and special player who gives us an extra edge,” said Simeone. “Of course, there are games where he doesn’t perform at his best, just like some of his teammates. Whether he plays is my decision, but I have absolute confidence in him.”
