Sudan’s Gold Production Rises to 64 Tons

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
The Director General of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, Mohamed Tahir Omar, announced an increase in the country’s gold production from 42 tons to 64 tons. He stated that gold revenues for 2024 amounted to $1.9 billion.
He attributed the rise in gold exports to the government’s generous support and efforts to ease all difficulties and security threats facing the mining sector.
During his visit to Gedaref State on Sunday and his joint meeting with the state government and the Security Committee, chaired by Lieutenant General Mohamed Ahmed Hassan, Tahir praised Gedaref’s role in securing mining areas over the years, particularly during the war period. Being a border state, Gedaref’s stability has positively impacted production and contributed to foreign currency reserves. He affirmed continued efforts to boost revenues, increase production, and enhance export regulations.
He called on the state to establish a gold market, implement a unified service window, and promote investment opportunities in its gold-rich areas. He also confirmed that all states have received their financial entitlements from gold revenues and reiterated the company’s support for Gedaref’s development projects in healthcare, water, and infrastructure.
For his part, Gedaref Governor Lieutenant General Mohamed Ahmed Hassan commended the significant role played by the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company in supporting the state as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The governor emphasized the need to double production and attract investors to the state’s mining sector, further praising the company’s contribution to Sudan’s foreign currency reserves.
