Protest in Denmark Demands Halt to Military Equipment Deliveries to Israel

On Monday, Danish police reported the arrest of 20 individuals during a protest calling on the shipping company “Maersk” to stop delivering military equipment to Israel.

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was among the protesters who gathered at Maersk’s headquarters in Copenhagen.

Police used batons and tear gas to disperse dozens of demonstrators, according to images published by local media.

Thunberg, in a video shared on social media, stated: “We are here to demand that Maersk stop transporting weapons and components of weapons to Israel.”

She added, “They must end all contracts and investments that support genocide and the occupation of Palestine.”

Thunberg, known for leading the “Fridays for Future” climate strike movement, has participated in numerous demonstrations supporting Palestinians since the outbreak of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

Maersk, in turn, clarified that its shipments do not include “weapons and ammunition.” In a message to AFP, the company stated: “These shipments contain equipment related to military activities… as part of the U.S.-Israeli security cooperation program. The shipments were inspected and comply with applicable laws.”

A police spokesperson confirmed to AFP: “We tried to use dialogue to encourage the protesters to leave. It is a private area. In the end, dialogue stopped, and we had to use necessary measures to remove the protesters from the area.”
