Italy Denies Intent to Send Troops to Ukraine for Peacekeeping

The Italian news agency “AKI” reported on Tuesday that government sources denied media reports claiming that Rome intended to send troops to Ukraine as part of a European peacekeeping force to provide security guarantees after signing a peace treaty.

The sources described these reports as “completely unfounded,” adding that “this discussion does not exist within the majority” of the ruling center-right coalition.

However, the sources noted that “if a United Nations mission (to Ukraine) is decided, comprising forces from various countries, we might consider it.”

Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he wanted broad representation from countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, and Turkey, in providing Ukraine with security guarantees to end the war with Russia.
