UK Prime Minister to Discuss Ukraine with ‘Allies’ by Weekend

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Tuesday that he will host leaders of several “allied” nations over the weekend for talks on Ukraine, following his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.

Speaking at a press conference, Starmer stated, “I will be welcoming (leaders of) several countries over the weekend to continue discussing ways to move forward together as allies in light of the situation we face.”

Starmer also revealed that the UK will increase its defense spending by an unprecedented rate “since the end of the Cold War,” just two days before his scheduled meeting with Trump in Washington.

In an unannounced speech before the House of Commons, Starmer confirmed that his government would raise the defense budget to 2.5% of GDP by 2027, up from the current 2.3%.

Addressing MPs, he said, “I can announce that this government will undertake the largest sustained increase in defense spending since the end of the Cold War.”

This announcement comes just days ahead of Starmer’s visit to Washington, where he is set to discuss the future of Ukraine amid the ongoing Russian invasion, now in its fourth year.
