Washington Warns Militia Against Forming a Parallel Government

Sudan Events – Agencies

The United States warned on Tuesday that an attempt by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and allied groups to establish a government in areas under their control, parallel to the one represented by the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, poses a threat of “dividing” the country.

A U.S. State Department spokesperson told Asharq that “attempts by the militia and its allies to form a government in areas under their control will not help bring peace and security to Sudan.”

The spokesperson added that “the step of forming a government in militia-controlled areas could lead to the risk of de facto division of Sudan.”

He emphasized that “the only path to Sudan’s peace and stability is an immediate and permanent cessation of hostilities and allowing pathways for forming a civilian government and rebuilding the country.”
