
On Wednesday, the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, received an official invitation from the UN Secretary-General and the Prime Minister of Spain to attend the High-Level Conference on Development Financing to be held in Seville, Spain.
This occurred during a meeting with Spain’s Ambassador to Sudan, Isidro Antonio, who delivered the invitation.
The meeting was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin.
The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs stated in a press statement that the Chairman of the Sovereign Council expressed his appreciation for Spain’s positive stance in support of Sudan’s unity and stability, noting Spain’s rejection of attempts to fragment Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity. He pointed out that Spain is one of Sudan’s key partners in the field of development, with several ongoing projects. He also mentioned that the Ambassador had several meetings with officials from different ministries to explore the possibility of Spanish economic sector involvement in post-war reconstruction projects in Sudan.
For his part, the Spanish Ambassador conveyed Spain’s hopes for the end of the war in Sudan and the restoration of peace and stability, expressing optimism about revitalizing cooperation between Spain and Sudan in various fields. He said that Spain regrets the ongoing conflict in Sudan and wishes for peace and stability to be achieved as soon as possible.
The Spanish Ambassador also shared a joint invitation letter from the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Spanish President Pedro Sánchez to the Chairman of the Sovereign Council to attend the UN High-Level Conference to be held in Spain in June. He said Spain looks forward to the participation of the Chairman of the Sovereign Council.
