Van Dijk to Liverpool Players: No Room for Complacency… The Title is Not Won Yet

Virgil van Dijk, the Dutch captain of Liverpool, warned his teammates that there is no room for complacency, rejecting any suggestions that his team has already secured the Premier League title.
Liverpool defeated Newcastle United 2-0, while Arsenal drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest, widening the gap between them at the top to 13 points, bringing the team very close to reclaiming the Premier League title after a five-year absence.
Van Dijk addressed the early celebrations from fans, saying: “They can sing whatever they want, we are of course enjoying the atmosphere, but we have to handle it.”
He added: “It’s not decided yet, there are still ten games to go, nothing is settled yet. Until things are decided, we must not be distracted by anything else.”
The British news agency (PA Media) quoted Van Dijk as saying: “I will get bored, guys, because I’ll then be asking you to stay calm.”
He pointed out: “You should enjoy winning matches, but not for too long, as you are playing almost every three days.”
He emphasized: “We have put ourselves in a very good position, but that doesn’t mean anything is settled. I keep reminding the players, and also the outside world, and the media colleagues, that there is no room for arrogance.”
