Pakistan: Bomb Explosion at Religious School Kills 5 Worshipers

A powerful bomb exploded inside a pro-Taliban religious school in northwest Pakistan on Friday, killing at least five worshipers and injuring dozens more ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, according to local police.

The explosion occurred in the Akora Khattak area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, as announced by Abdul Rashid, the area’s police chief.

He added that the police have launched an investigation into the incident, while the bodies of the deceased and the injured are being transported to hospitals, according to the Associated Press on Friday.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack at the “Haqani Mosque Complex,” a religious institution known for its ties to the Afghan Taliban. The blast occurred before the beginning of Ramadan, which is expected to start either on Saturday or Sunday, depending on the sighting of the moon.

Pakistani police said on Friday that six worshipers were killed while performing Friday prayers when an explosion occurred at a religious university known for training leaders of the Afghan Taliban in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, northwest Pakistan. Several others were injured, including the head of the university, Maulana Hamid al-Haq, the son of the late Maulana Sami ul-Haq, who was dubbed the “Father of the Taliban.”

Najeeb Rahman, a police officer from the region, stated that Maulana Hamid al-Haq is in critical condition.
